Synopsis of Project
Imagine the biting cold of an Appalachian winter. The kind of cold right before snow falls that pierces you to your core. Imagine you don't have enough clothes, or food, and you are alone. Imagine you have to give up the love of your life so others may live. Now also imagine it is 1936.
Ruth is a Packhorse Librarian; women who had to ride alone into the elements, oftentimes wading through frozen rivers, and thick mud, endangering themselves to deliver knowledge, literature and help those gravely isolated in a time of great need. And somehow, they have been mostly lost to history. The film follows her sacrifice, after sacrifice, choosing others again and again, with a overwhelming sense of purpose beyond the self.
The last quarter of this short film brings us to the present, where we meet Quinn, a descendent of Ruth. Set in June of 2022, on the morning that Roe v Wade fell, Quinn is an OB-GYN, who has been delivered a cease and desist order by the state of Kentucky. Another woman in this bloodline who will be faced to make life-altering decisions, regardless of the cost. Just like her great-grandmother.

Proof of Concept
Here’s the difference:
The feature will be shot in Kentucky, on Cut Shin Creek, and using as much of a local crew and cast as we can.
Local musicians hired to help with the music.
Local horses and descendants of these women and this time, if we can.
We want to explore the private moments of Ruth, her relationship with the terrain, and dive even more into the generational strength and relationships that are the backbone of our story.
A taste of the terrain, the struggle, the loss, the triumph, the resolve. This story deserves to be told in a full format, fully flushed out and explored.
This will not be another story lost to history.
Our dream, is that RUTH as a short film will serve as a fundraising tool for us to develop this important story into a Feature Film. This short film will be only a taste.
